Redeveloped Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum & Memorial Park: 6,000 frontline workers in preps to cater to tourists – Akufo-Addo
Six thousand (6,000) frontline workers will be on hand to assist visitors to the renovated Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Accra, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
President Akufo-Addo revealed this during the inauguration of the plush facility, Wednesday, July 4, 2023.
The park, upon its reopening, is expected to attract more than a million tourists and for Mr Akufo-Addo, this will come with employment opportunities and a meaningful enriching of the local economy.
“6,000 frontline operators will undergo comprehensive training in customer care skills and competencies within the next year to effectively cater to both domestic and international tourists,” President Akufo-Addo informed, optimistic that: “Satisfied tourists are more likely to extend their stay, thus benefiting the local economy.”
The fifth President of Ghana’s fourth republic, he highlighted the West African country’s glowing reputation as a global hub of entertainment especially for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
This, he noted, is courtesy the successful 2019 launch of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MoTAC) and the Ghana Tourism Authority’s (GTA) Year of Return initiative and subsequent and ongoing Beyond the Return and December in Ghana (GH).
“I have received information that the diaspora community is already making reservations and plans to visit Ghana,” he noted, assuring that: “Therefore, I have instructed the Ghana Tourism Authority to collaborate with relevant entities such as the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Ghana Police Service, the Diaspora Office of the President, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to prepare for December in Ghana,” he noted.
Also, President Akufo-Addo impressed on the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) the need for the highest standards of maintenance for the renovated Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Accra.
Attending the inauguration were plain citizens, various stakeholders of the tourism value chain, political and traditional leaders and entertainment personalities.
On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, the MoTAC lead, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, initiated the rehabilitation and redevelopment of the iconic Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum, where the mortal remains of Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President Dr Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fatia Nkrumah are.
This reconstruction project aims to preserve the park’s historical significance, expand its visitor capacity, and enhance service delivery to visitors.
