NEDCo disconnects power supply to Cookclean Ghana Ltd and others over GH¢51,868 debt

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has disconnected power supply to Cookclean Ghana Limited and three other timber companies located in Mim-Bediako in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region due to non-payment of a combined debt totaling GH¢51,868.00.
The exercise, carried out by officials from NEDCo’s Sunyani Regional Office and the Mim substation, forms part of an ongoing mass disconnection operation aimed at recovering outstanding debts from defaulting customers.
The affected companies included Ayum Forest Products Limited, Supremo Wood Processing Limited, and RK Peprah Company Limited.
However, these companies avoided immediate disconnection after making partial payments following discussions with the NEDCo task force.
Ayum Forest Products Ltd, which owes a total of GH¢5.6 million, issued two postdated cheques of GH¢800,000 and GH¢200,000, due on April 14 and April 22, 2025, respectively.
Supremo Wood Processing Ltd, owing GH¢1.48 million, was initially disconnected.
However, after a few hours, the company made a payment of GH¢700,000 through the bank, prompting NEDCo to restore their power supply.
At RK Peprah Company Ltd in Ampenkro, the company paid its debt in full—GH¢10,595—in cash, thereby avoiding disconnection.
In addition to the commercial entities, several lifeline customers in the area were also disconnected due to non-payment of bills.
Speaking to CTV/Accra FM's Odeneho Kwesi Appiah , Akologo Augustine Nsoh, NEDCo’s Billing Protection and Revenue Officer, appealed to customers to empathize with the company’s situation. He explained that NEDCo needs revenue to meet its operational costs and to pay for the electricity it distributes.
“We’ve made several appeals to customers to settle their debts, but unfortunately many have not complied. That’s why we’ve had to embark on this mass disconnection to recover the debts,” Mr. Nsoh explained.
He further urged all defaulting customers to settle their outstanding bills promptly to avoid disconnection and ensure the sustainability of NEDCo’s operations.
