Minerals Commission appoints Caretaker team to oversee Bogoso-Prestea mine

The Minerals Commission has appointed a six-member caretaker team to assist the regional manager in supervising operations at the FGR Bogoso-Prestea mine.
This follows the termination of the company's mining leases.
The government’s decision, announced on Wednesday, 18 September 2024, stems from multiple investigations into the company’s non-compliance with regulations.
The termination followed comprehensive reports from the Minerals Commission and a Ministerial Committee, which reviewed the company’s operations.
Lands Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor, who made the announcement, disclosed that the previous operators were cautioned in August 2023 for several breaches linked to their mining activities.
Despite repeated warnings, the company failed to resolve the issues.
“The previous operators were warned, but they did not take the necessary steps to rectify the issues,” Mr. Jinapor stated.
However, Blue Gold Bogoso Prestea Limited, claiming to be the new operator of the mines, has contested the government’s decision, insisting their operations are legitimate.
The company vowed to challenge the termination notice in court.
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi, confirmed that the newly appointed caretaker team will “oversee the day-to-day affairs of the mine site effective immediately.”
