The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced that the 40th edition of National Farmers’ Day will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2024, in the Greater Accra Region.

The annual event honours the vital contributions of farmers and fishermen to Ghana’s economy and food security.

This year’s celebration will be held under the theme: “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.”

The theme highlights Ghana’s commitment to adopting agricultural practices that address the growing challenges posed by climate change.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 23, the Ministry also revealed that the celebrations will be preceded by Agrifest Ghana 2024, a five-day National Agricultural Fair.

Taking place from November 4 to November 8, Agrifest will showcase the country’s rich agricultural heritage and provide a platform for knowledge exchange and innovation among farmers and stakeholders.

The festivities will culminate in a National Awards Night on November 8, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to honour exceptional farmers across 16 award categories.

These include the prestigious Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer.

The Ministry noted that the event will also serve as a forum to promote dialogue on sustainable farming practices in the face of environmental changes.

The goal is to encourage farmers to adopt climate-resilient strategies to ensure long-term food security.

Traditionally held in December, this year’s event has been moved to November to accommodate the 2024 general elections.
