Ongoing road construction

MTN, a leading telecommunications company, has reported a total of 471 fibre optic cable cuts in the Ashanti region from January to July 2024, primarily due to ongoing road construction activities.

Speaking at the 2024 Editors Forum, Mr. Charles Osei Akoto, the Regional Technical Head of MTN, highlighted that these cable cuts have led to network poles being disconnected from the main equipment, impacting some customer services.

Despite the high number of incidents, Mr. Akoto noted that only 38 of these cuts resulted in service disruptions for customers, thanks to the company's robust measures aimed at maintaining service quality.

Additionally, nine pole sites were locked up during this period, which restricted access for resolving arising issues and further contributed to network problems.

Mr. Akoto appealed to the public to report any fibre cables encountered during their activities without cutting them.

He also urged for the settlement of disputes without resorting to locking up pole sites, to ensure uninterrupted network services
