Reformers Judo Club hosts successful mini-tournament in Accra
The Reformers Judo Club organized a vibrant mini-tournament on Saturday, November 30, at the Ghana Prisons Training School in Roman Ridge, Accra.
The event brought together participants across various weight categories, showcasing talent and competitiveness in both senior and junior divisions.
The tournament kicked off at 10:00 AM and concluded at 4:00 PM, featuring intense matches in categories such as men’s and women’s open-weight and junior divisions.
Men’s Weight Classes
In the senior men’s category, athletes competed across weight classes including below 60kg, 66kg, 73kg, 81kg, 90kg, and 100kg.
Thomas Kobina clinched the gold medal in the below 60kg class, with Clinton Teye Gadugah and James Opoku securing silver and bronze respectively.
Frank Tekpor won gold in the below 66kg category, while Eugene Boateng Mensah and Benjamin Agudoo claimed silver and bronze.
Godwin Dadi took home gold in the below 81, 90, and 100kg open weight class, followed by Maxwell Amekudzi and Kaybee in second and third places.
Women’s Competition
The women’s division showcased outstanding performances in the below 57kg, 70kg, and 73kg categories. Evelyn Enyonam Dzato emerged victorious, securing gold, while Grace Antonia and Emmanuella Tindan Wuni won silver and bronze respectively.
Junior Division
The junior competition saw remarkable displays of talent among the boys and girls. Baba Zakaria and Henry Kwesi Kodzi won gold in their respective divisions, with Labib Mohammed and George Makafui Ayivor earning silver. In the girls’ category, Esther and Bernice Williams captured gold, while Zulriel Foli and Mavis Danso took silver.
Notable Remarks
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Hon. Freda Akosua Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Tano North, commended the organizers for promoting inclusivity in the sport.
"It’s a laudable initiative, especially seeing young women actively involved in judo. This is my first close interaction with the sport, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it," Mr. Prempeh said.
She encouraged parents to nurture their children’s talents and urged the media to raise awareness about judo.
Mr. Ken Arthur, President of the Ghana Judo Association, also praised the participants for their discipline and effort, affirming the association’s commitment to growing the sport in Ghana.
