Go all out against Nigeria in return leg – Black Galaxies urged
Former Ghana international, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has urged the Black Galaxies to adopt an attacking mindset in their second-leg Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Nigeria.
The first leg, played on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, ended in a goalless draw between Ghana and Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team.
With the return leg scheduled for Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Agyemang-Badu, who represented Ghana at the 2009 African Nations Championship in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the need for the team to go on the offensive.
“We should be very careful not to go and defend,” he told Joy Sports.
“This is only one game and when you lose, you are not going anywhere. We can’t do that [lose] because mind you, we didn’t qualify for the [2025] Africa Cup of Nations.
“If the CHAN too, we don’t qualify then there will be a little bit of disaster so we will support them, pray them, they [Galaxies] should go all out and win the game for us in the return leg,” he added.
The winner of the two-legged tie will earn a spot in the CHAN 2025 tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
In the last edition, Ghana triumphed over Nigeria in a penalty shootout to qualify and will be hoping for a similar result this time. Nigeria, meanwhile, has missed the last two editions of the competition.
