Ghana wins bid to host 2026 African Athletics Championship
Ghana Athletics has successfully won the bid to host the 2026 African Athletics Championship in Accra.
The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) confirmed this decision during its Council Meeting held in Douala, Cameroon.
The Ghanaian bid team, consisting of Mr. Majid Bawa from the National Sports Authority (NSA), along with Fuseini Bawah and Charles Osei Asibey from Ghana Athletics, played a pivotal role in securing the event for Ghana.
The 2026 African Athletics Championship is expected to bring together top athletes from across the continent, providing a platform for outstanding performances and fostering greater unity and cooperation among African nations. Additionally, it promises to boost the local economy, create jobs, and enhance tourism in Accra.
Preparations for the 2026 African Athletics Championship will soon commence, with a focus on upgrading facilities, engaging stakeholders, and mobilizing resources to deliver an unforgettable event.
