Ghana's quest to revive their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers campaign suffered another blow on Thursday, 10 October 2024, as they were held to a goalless draw by Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars, struggling to secure their first win of the qualifiers, now face an uphill battle to remain competitive in Group F.

Otto Addo's side created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game but failed to find the back of the net.

Despite naming a strong starting lineup, including Mohammed Kudus as captain in the absence of Thomas Partey, Ghana’s lack of clinical finishing was evident.

Key chances fell to Antoine Semenyo, Kudus, and substitute Inaki Williams, but Sudan’s defence stood firm, denying the home side a breakthrough.

Defender Alexander Djiku returned to the starting lineup, and Atalanta midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana made his first start for the national team.

Ernest Nuamah, Jordan Ayew, and Semenyo completed the attacking trio, but their efforts were not enough to secure a victory.

The Black Stars' frustrations grew in the second half when they played some of their best football under Addo, yet failed to capitalise on opportunities.

A close-range miss by Semenyo, followed by near misses from Kudus and Williams, highlighted Ghana’s struggles in front of goal.

With just two points from three games, Ghana’s chances of progressing in the qualifiers are in serious doubt.

They now turn their attention to the return fixture in Libya, where they must secure a win to boost their chances of advancing to the AFCON 2025 tournament.
