Black Stars amongst top seeded teams as Johanesburg host AFCON 2025 qualifying draw today
South Africa's largest city, Johannesburg, will host the AFCON 2025 Qualifying draw for Africa’s premier football event, set to take place in Morocco in late December 2025.
The Black Stars of Ghana have climbed from 68th to 64th in FIFA’s World Ranking, and from 14th to 12th in the Continent’s rankings, following recent victories against Mali and the Central African Republic.
These wins have ensured that the Black Stars are among the top-seeded nations for the upcoming African Cup draw.
Morocco, the hosts, will be joined in Pot 1 by defending champions Côte d'Ivoire, along with Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, and Ghana.
This placement means the Black Stars will avoid being drawn into a qualifying group with these top African teams in the continent's premier football competition.
The 48 teams vying for a spot in the 35th edition of the AFCON will be divided into four pots of 12, based on their FIFA rankings.
The draw will create 12 groups, labelled A to L, each comprising four teams.
The qualifiers for AFCON 2025 will begin in September later this year
