Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo Mensah has expressed support for Black Stars Coach Otto Addo to be sacked.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has come under significant pressure to fire Addo after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco – a first in 20 years.
Speaking to Asempa FM in Accra, Mr Nunoo Mensah said, "Ghanaians have every right to call for the sack of the coach.
"I believe that somebody must take responsibility for Black Stars' failure to qualify for the AFCON tournament. For failing to win a single game in the qualifiers and also failing to qualify is a total embarrassment."
The Black Stars playing in Group F against Angola, Sudan, and Niger, played six games, finishing at the bottom of the group. They scored thrice, drew thrice, and were defeated thrice.
"I have not been convinced about Otto Addo’s coaching prowess, especially against Niger," Ben Nunoo Mensah remarked.
After promptly dissolving the Black Stars’ management committee after they were beaten 2:1 by Niger, the GFA’s Executive Council is yet to decide on Otto Addo’s fate.
A marathon meeting was held last week to review the 47-year-old’s technical report on the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, however.
Come March 2025, the team takes on Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
