Asamoah Gyan blames “evil individuals” for Ghana’s football failures
Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has attributed Ghana’s prolonged inability to win a major football tournament to the actions of certain “evil individuals.”
In a candid Instagram Live session that quickly gained traction, Gyan shared insights about his time with the national team, with the discussion eventually turning into a revealing exposé.
“There are evil people in this country; that’s why we can’t win anything.
These people have tarnished Ghana’s reputation with dirt,” Gyan stated.
Ghana has not lifted the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy in 43 years and will miss the upcoming tournament in Morocco.
While Gyan refrained from naming specific individuals, his comments hinted at the involvement of influential figures.
“They used my popularity as a political tactic to get my fans to vote for them,” he added, alluding to his brief association with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The former striker had served as chairman of the Youth and Sports Sub-Committee for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s manifesto team during the 2024 presidential campaign.
However, Gyan stepped down six months into the role, citing a desire to focus on youth development.
Announcing his departure, Gyan unveiled plans to empower Ghanaian youth through sports academies, training centres, and mentorship initiatives under the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
The session has reignited conversations about the challenges facing Ghana’s football and the role of politics in the sport.
