The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled a re-run of the Walewale parliamentary primary.

The party announced the primary will be held on Sunday, 8 September 2024, following a ruling by the High Court in Tamale that annulled the original election results.

On Monday 2 September 2024, the Tamale High Court, presided over by Justice Richard Kogjawah, declared the initial results void, citing flaws in the election process, including irregularities, impersonation, and over-voting.

The court's decision mandates a fresh primary to rectify these issues.

In response to the court's ruling, the party issued a statement signed by its General Secretary detailing the new election schedule.

According to the statement, the timelines are as follows: nominations will open on Tuesday, 3 September 2024, and close on Thursday, 5 September 2024.

The re-run election will take place on Sunday, 8 September 2024.

Aspiring candidates must secure nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee of GHS3,000 via banker's draft.

To file their nominations, candidates will need to pay a non-refundable filing fee of GHS35,000, also in banker's draft.

Also, the NPP has introduced a 50 per cent rebate on the filing fees for women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

This group will be required to pay a reduced non-refundable filing fee of GHS17,500.
