Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged former President John Dramani Mahama to refrain from using inflammatory language when discussing the potential transfer of power following the December 7 elections.

Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as "Napo," made these remarks in response to Mahama’s statement, which implied that "thunder will strike" anyone who refuses to hand over power after the election.

Addressing a crowd at a rally in Effiduase in the Ashanti Region, Napo described Mahama’s comment as unnecessary and called for a more constructive discourse.

He emphasized that President Nana Akufo-Addo will, without question, transfer power peacefully at the end of his term, as required by the Constitution.

Napo also commended the people of Effiduase Asokore for their continued loyalty to the NPP and praised the area's readiness to support the party’s collective agenda of maintaining and building on the achievements made during the party’s time in government.

He lauded Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign message, highlighting how it resonates with the people, and offering bold solutions to Ghana's challenges.

At the same rally, Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua, Chief of Kumawu, expressed his admiration for Dr. Prempeh’s dedication to public service and congratulated him on his appointment as the NPP’s vice-presidential candidate.

The chief pledged his unwavering support and prayers for the NPP ticket, urging the people of the Ashanti Region to deliver a decisive victory for the party in the 2024 elections. He went further, calling for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be "retired" from Ghanaian politics.

Dr. Prempeh echoed these sentiments, urging the people of Effiduase Asokore to mobilize for a significant win that would solidify the NPP's dominance and, in his words, send the NDC into "political oblivion."

He emphasized the need for rigorous campaigning to secure a landslide victory, stressing that such a win would bring about the continued development of the region.

Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, also addressed the rally, encouraging constituents to vote overwhelmingly for the NPP to ensure the necessary development projects for the area. He emphasized that a massive turnout in support of the party would strengthen its ability to deliver on its promises to the people.
