Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on traditional leaders and the clergy to advise President Akufo-Addo on the importance of ensuring a peaceful transfer of power after the December 7, elections.

His appeal follows calls from the chiefs of Damang/Ahwrese in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency of the Eastern Region for peaceful elections.

Mr Asiedu Nketia criticized the President for allegedly allowing electoral violence and failing to implement recommendations from a committee that investigated such incidents.

He emphasized that preventing destabilization in the country requires traditional leaders and the clergy to hold the President accountable.

“If our nation’s leaders truly desire peace, I urge you to counsel the President to hand over power peacefully as his tenure concludes,” Nketia stated.

“He inherited a peaceful nation; let him ensure the same tranquillity prevails when he departs.”

He further appealed to traditional leaders and the clergy, saying, “Respected Nananom and clergy, your influence is significant.

Speak the truth, and no politician will dare disobey you. Your words carry weight, and we implore you to use your authority to promote a peaceful transition.”
