Divine Nkrumah, Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has urged security agencies and the Electoral Commission (EC) to take decisive action against vote-buying during the December 7, 2024, general elections.

Speaking in an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show with Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 Mr. Nkrumah expressed concerns about incidents that occurred during the special voting exercise in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

He criticized the actions of a Minister of State and Member for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan who was captured distributing food to security personnel in the voting queue, describing it as a serious misstep. "This is a mistake that must not be repeated during Saturday’s polls," Mr. Nkrumah emphasized.

Mr. Nkrumah stressed the need for such actions to be eliminated ahead of the main voting day to preserve the integrity of the elections.

He noted that if such incidents occurred on the actual polling day, they could have had severe consequences for the peace and credibility of the electoral process.

“We must not repeat what transpired at Ayawaso West Wuogon.

These actions could jeopardize the peace of the elections,” he cautioned, adding that the EC must ensure strict adherence to electoral rules to prevent any form of inducement.

The PPP director of Operations called on all stakeholders, including the EC and security agencies, to remain vigilant against any acts that might undermine the fairness of the elections.

He reiterated the importance of fostering public confidence in the electoral process and safeguarding the nation’s democracy.
