The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as a deliberate disinformation campaign by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) aimed at misleading Ghana’s security services ahead of the December 7 elections.

In a press release signed by Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, the party dismissed claims circulating online that it plans to dismiss new recruits or conduct a forensic audit and review of all appointments made to state security agencies since 2017.

“These fabricated stories, including a fake memo attributed to the General Secretary of the NDC and a flyer from a fake news account ‘NEWSGH360,’ are baseless and should be treated with contempt,” the statement read.

The NDC further clarified that a recirculated 2020 video featuring its National Communications Officer addressing voter registration-related violence in Banda was misrepresented.

The party stressed that the remarks in the video were directed at alleged NPP-aligned vigilantes impersonating military personnel, not at the professional security forces.

“We honour and acknowledge the patriotic men and women in our security services who work tirelessly to protect our nation.

The NDC has no intentions to victimize them,” the statement emphasized, urging the public and security personnel to disregard the purported fake publications.

The party accused the NPP of resorting to spreading falsehoods as part of a “desperate” campaign strategy, given its anticipated defeat in the upcoming polls.

The NDC called on the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to swiftly investigate the origins of the fake stories and prosecute those responsible.

“The sources and purveyors of these fake stories are known to all of us, including the Ghana Police Service. We urge the Police to act swiftly,” the statement concluded.
