NDC assures EC staff of support in the face of prolong neglect ahead of Dec. polls
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is extending assurances to the Electoral Commission (EC) staff, promising an end to what they describe as prolonged neglect from the Commission and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
This promise comes from the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr Edward Omane Boamah who expressed confidence in a new path for the EC after the December 7 elections, should former President John Dramani Mahama be elected.
Addressing the EC staff directly, the NDC's representative stated, “The neglect you’ve endured from the Commission and the NPP government must end on December 7.”
The NDC also wished the EC well in their deliberations as they prepare for a crucial meeting tomorrow, which will gather District Electoral Officers, Assistant Electoral Officers, Returning Officers, and Deputy Returning Officers at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium, UPSA – a venue where Mahama has often addressed the nation since 2020.
The NDC praised the dedication of EC staff to Ghana’s democratic processes despite the perceived shortcomings of some senior leaders at the Commission’s headquarters.
Assurances were given that if elected, Mahama’s administration would prioritize the EC’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), fuel allowances, and risk compensations as well as address Tier 2 pension concerns, all to improve the working conditions of EC personnel.
The NDC emphasized their commitment to Constitutional Instrument 127 (C.I. 127), encouraging the EC staff to uphold this standard as the nation moves closer to the December 7 elections.
The party further pledged to work with the EC to restore its reputation as a transparent and trusted institution for free and fair elections in Ghana and beyond.
“Ghanaians cannot wait,” said the NDC’s Director, expressing hope that the coming elections would set Ghana on a new course, renewing both the EC and the government’s commitment to the people.
