The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of printing fake ballot papers to manipulate the outcome of the upcoming December 7 general elections.

In a press release, the NDC claimed to have "credible information" about the alleged illicit printing of fake ballot papers, supposedly orchestrated by the NPP and the Bawumia campaign team.

Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the Campaign Spokesperson for the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, signed the statement and alleged that the ruling party is preparing to disrupt the electoral process.

“We have credible information about the illicit printing of fake ballot papers by the NPP and the Bawumia campaign, intended to undermine the electoral process,” the statement read.

The NDC also accused the NPP of planning to intimidate voters in areas known to favour the opposition, alleging that “the ruling party aims to manipulate the elections by intimidating voters and polling agents in NDC strongholds, allowing them to introduce pre-thumb-printed ballots.”

The NDC strongly condemned these alleged actions, emphasizing its commitment to upholding democratic principles.

“We want to be clear: the NDC will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the will of the people of Ghana. We are prepared to resist any efforts at electoral manipulation as planned by the NPP and the Bawumia campaign,” Mogtari stated.

The opposition party also called on the Electoral Commission, as well as President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to ensure the election process remains free and fair.

“We urge the Electoral Commission, the President, and the Vice President to act with integrity and ensure a fair election without intimidation or vote tampering,” the statement continued.

Ms Mogtari also encouraged Ghanaians to vote without fear, reminding them of the importance of their participation: “We remind all Ghanaians that the power is in your hands.

Your voice matters, and together, we will ensure that every vote counts.”

This announcement follows a recent incident in which the Electoral Commission identified and destroyed ballot papers with serialisation errors meant for the Volta and Ahafo regions.

The NDC has raised concerns that this error may have been an attempt to tamper with the election, adding to the party’s suspicion of foul play by the ruling NPP.

As the election date draws near, the NDC has vowed to remain vigilant, urging all stakeholders to protect the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process.
