The Minority Caucus in Parliament has strongly condemned a surge of violence allegedly directed at New Patriotic Party (NPP) members and public officials by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the 2024 Presidential elections.

At a press conference on Thursday morning, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiah-Agyei expressed alarm over several reported incidents, including an attempt by NDC loyalists to seize control of the Tema Port and the forced closure of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) offices in Koforidua.

She described these acts as a grave threat to Ghana’s democratic principles and the integrity of state institutions.

Appiah-Agyei attributed the unrest in part to the creation of the so-called Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) Committee, allegedly formed by President John Dramani Mahama.

She criticized the committee as unconstitutional and claimed its existence had emboldened some NDC supporters to engage in lawlessness.

“The President must take immediate and decisive action to halt this escalating violence.

The safety of civil servants and the sanctity of our democratic institutions are at stake,” she stated.

The Minority Caucus further called on the country’s security agencies to enforce the law impartially and ensure the protection of all public officials from intimidation or harm.

“We urge all Ghanaians to remain united in defending our democracy during these challenging times.

It is imperative that we rise above political divisions and uphold the rule of law,” Appiah-Agyei concluded.

The Minority Caucus emphasized its commitment to working with all stakeholders to safeguard Ghana’s democracy and called for calm as the nation moves forward.
