If you fail to campaign for Bawumia, we ‘Il come after you-Wontumi to NPP appointees
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has issued a stern warning to party appointees who are not actively campaigning for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's flagbearer for the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM's 6:00 am news on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, while on a campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, Mr Wontumi emphasized that the party leadership is closely monitoring the activities of all appointees.
He cautioned, “We don’t need anyone to tell us who is campaigning; if you are campaigning, we will know.”
He stressed that those who actively support the party's campaign efforts will be recognized and rewarded accordingly.
Mr Wontumi highlighted the commitment of key party figures like Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and Samira Bawumia, noting that their campaign efforts are evident without needing announcements.
He drew a parallel, stating that the same standard applies to the appointees: "If the appointees campaign for Bawumia and Prempeh's victory in 2024, we will know."
Recalling the 2016 campaign, Mr Wontumi noted that many current appointees were not in their positions at that time but have benefited from the party's success.
He warned that if these appointees do not contribute to the current campaign, there will be consequences: “If they don’t campaign this time around, we will come after them
