I won't doubt Ayariga's capabilities to lead us-MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jaman North Constituency in the Bono Region, Mr Frederick Yaw Ahenkwah, has thrown his support behind the nomination of Mahama Ayariga as the next Majority Leader of Parliament, following the appointment of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister-designate by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on the GHANA NKUSUO morning show on Accra-based CTV hosted by Obaapa Yaa Titi on Friday, January 17, 2025, Mr. Ahenkwah expressed confidence in Mr. Ayariga’s capabilities to lead the Majority Caucus effectively.
"I have no doubt in Mr. Ayariga’s ability to lead the Majority in Parliament.
He is an astute lawyer and one of the longest-serving MPs in the House," he stated.
He highlighted Mr. Ayariga’s extensive experience within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing his past roles as Spokesperson for the late President John Evans Atta Mills and Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology.
"This is a man with great capabilities, and he deserves this position," Mr. Ahenkwah added.
The Jaman North MP also cautioned the NDC leadership against imposing a leader on the Majority Caucus, warning that such a move could create disunity among MPs and derail President Mahama’s agenda for good governance.
He argued that MPs should have the autonomy to select their own leadership, as this would foster cohesion and unity within the caucus.
"A leader who does not connect well with the vast majority of MPs could create divisions, which may affect the President’s ability to implement his policies successfully," he warned.
Despite his concerns, Mr. Ahenkwah expressed hope that whoever is ultimately chosen as Majority Leader will work toward the party’s goals as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to alleviating poverty and establishing a strong governance structure, urging all party members to rally behind the selected leader for the betterment of Ghana.
