Elections 2024: Kamala Harris campaign akin to Bawumia’s campaign –Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has drawn a comparison between the campaign strategy of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Ghana's Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Gyamfi, both have distanced themselves from their respective economies, a tactic he claims was detrimental to Harris's campaign and, he predicts, could impact Bawumia similarly.

Mr Gyamfi explained that one of the major factors contributing to Harris’s perceived challenges in the U.S. was her distancing from economic issues, despite the economy being central to voters' concerns.

He argued that Dr. Bawumia, who once led Ghana's Economic Management Team, has shifted his focus to digitalization, avoiding discussions on the economy as if it were not his responsibility.

“Anything positive about this government was his credit, but whenever there were issues with the economy, he took a backseat,” Mr Gyamfi said, suggesting that Bawumia, like Harris, cannot separate himself from his administration's successes or failures.

According to Mr Gyamfi, both are trying to evade accountability for their respective governments’ economic challenges.

He pointed out that Ghana’s economy, rated B- during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama, is now rated as "junk" under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.

Gyamfi’s remarks were made during an interview on Accra-based Joy FM
