Bawku crisis: President Mahama backs Otumfuo's peace efforts

President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the renewed outbreak of violence in Bawku, expressing concern over the ongoing unrest while voicing hope that peace will soon be restored through mediation efforts led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The latest wave of violence erupted on Thursday, April 10, following clashes between local youth and police forces, resulting in several casualties, including confirmed injuries and deaths.
In a troubling twist, the private residence of Bawku’s Member of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, was reportedly set ablaze during the chaos.
Speaking at the Graduation Parade of the Ghana Military Academy earlier today, President Mahama emphasized the urgent need to restore calm to the conflict-prone area.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peace and security in Bawku and across the country.
He further lauded the ongoing peace process led by the Asantehene, expressing confidence in Otumfuo’s efforts to broker a lasting resolution to the long-standing conflict.
