Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, has announced her decision to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Speaking to her constituents recently, Ms Morrison, who previously served as the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, highlighted her commitment to the development of Agona, stating that her candidacy is focused on the area's growth rather than party politics.

Ms Morrison's decision comes after her loss in the NPP parliamentary primary on April 13, where she garnered 152 votes, while Christopher Arthur, her opponent, won with 240 votes.

She expressed that her primary concern is serving Agona, regardless of whether voters choose former President John Dramani Mahama or Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the presidential race.

Ms Morrison emphasised the importance of securing votes for her so she can continue the work she began during her tenure.

Ms Morrison first secured the Agona West parliamentary seat in the 2016 general elections and was re-elected in 2020.
