#2024Polls: NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi praises Bawumia for statesmanlike concession to Mahama

The National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has praised Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, for his exceptional display of statesmanship following the 7 December general elections.
This recognition comes after Dr Bawumia conceded defeat to NDC flagbearer John Mahama.
In a post on X, Sammy Gyamfi lauded Dr Bawumia’s gesture, describing it as “an exceptional display of statesmanship.”
He further expressed admiration for the NPP flagbearer, adding: “Respect!”
Dr Bawumia’s concession, which took place ahead of the official announcement of the results by the Electoral Commission, was widely seen as a remarkable show of political maturity, helping to set a tone for a peaceful transition.
During a press conference on Sunday, 8 December 2024, Dr Bawumia confirmed Mr. Mahama’s decisive lead, stating: “I have just called His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him as President-elect of the Republic of Ghana.”
Dr Bawumia further stressed his respect for the will of the people, declaring: “The people of Ghana have spoken; the people have voted for change at this time, and we respect that decision with all humility.”
He also explained that his early concession was motivated by a desire to maintain peace and unity in the country, adding: “My concession speech ahead of the EC’s official announcement is to avoid further tension and preserve the peace of our country.”
In addition to recognising Mr. Mahama’s victory, Dr Bawumia confirmed the NDC’s success in securing both the presidency and a parliamentary majority.
“Former President Mahama and the NDC have won the presidential election decisively, while the NDC has also won the parliamentary election, although they are still waiting for the final collation,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the final results would not alter the overall outcome.
The concession speech delivered earlier today by @MBawumia was an exceptional display of statesmanship. Respect!
