Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference announces memorial activities in honour of Pope Francis

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has announced a series of solemn activities to honour the memory of His Holiness Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025.
The Vatican confirmed the Pope’s death earlier that day, following a prolonged period of ill health.
Pope Francis had faced several medical challenges in recent years, including a 38-day hospital stay between February and March 2025.
In an official statement signed by the President of the GCBC and Catholic Bishop of Sunyani, Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, the Conference called on all bishops, priests, religious, and lay faithful across Ghana to offer prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late pontiff.
The statement further indicated that a National Memorial Mass will be organised at a later date to honour Pope Francis’ legacy.
Details of the event will be announced in due course, with a call for full participation from all members of the Catholic community in Ghana.
The GCBC expressed its deep sorrow at the passing of Pope Francis and encouraged all members of the Church to unite in prayer and reflection during this time of mourning.
