The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the 2024 general elections as a defining moment for Ghana, framing it as a battle for the “soul of the nation” against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC, emphasized that the election transcended partisan politics, reflecting the deep frustration and disillusionment of Ghanaians with the ruling administration.

Mr. Kwetey argued that the election symbolized a moral and spiritual reckoning for the NPP, whose governance he said had inflicted severe economic hardship on the people.

“This election was beyond politics.

It was about the soul of Ghana versus the NPP,” Mr. Kwetey remarked, asserting that the results demonstrated the collective will of Ghanaians to seek change.

He described the election as a spiritual battle, claiming that the NPP’s actions had generated “massive vertical energy” aimed at humbling the party.

Mr. Kwetey further noted that the “hand of God had long departed” from the NPP, citing its inability to take responsibility for Ghana’s economic woes.

Instead, he said, the government relied on external factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war to justify its shortcomings.

“A government that inflicts so much economic pain, engages in deception, and refuses to accept responsibility cannot expect blessings,” he said.

He spoke in an interview on JoyNews' Upfront on Wednesday.
