#2024Polls: NDC MP Ablakwa not celebrating but 'reflective' noting Ghana's punitive polls
Despite the enormous victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the 2024 polls, NDC North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has remarked, "I'm not celebrating much. I'm rather reflective."
He said Ghanaians had made it clear, their only concern was for elected leaders to "improve our lot, respect us," else "we'll punish you".
This, he added, was proven at the polls, where the governing NPP suffered a historic defeat.
Ablakwa said this posture taken by the Ghanaian electorate was a powerful admonishment which "serves as a deterrent for those coming into government".
The corruption crusader spoke on TV3.
Ghana went to the polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
On Monday, the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa declared results from 267 constituencies, enough to clearly point out the winner of the presidential election. It was former President John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with 6.3 million votes (56.55%).
Earlier on Sunday, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer cum Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat, underlining the NDC had a decisive victory in parliament, also, according to data available to his campaign team.
According to the EC, he polled 4.6 million votes (41.61%).
