To enhance the conduct of elections in Commonwealth countries, especially in the area of keeping the peace, the Commonwealth Observer Group has asked Ghana’s election security task force, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare, to share its experiences from Ghana’s 2024 polls.
Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections took place on December 7, 2024.
Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, the leader of the Commonwealth Observer Mission, praised Ghana for its composure during the elections, which were deemed free, fair, transparent, and decisive.
The former Botswana president thanked the Ghanaian government and institutions for their efforts, noting Ghana remained a shining star in Africa.
He also expressed his intention to share the success story with other Commonwealth member states, highlighting hope for Africa’s democratic dispensation.
The Commonwealth Observer Group’s commendation is a testament to Ghana’s reputable commitment to democratic excellence in Africa.
This positive assessment echoes the Commonwealth Observer Group's previous commendations for Ghana’s elections.
