NHIA holds strategic meeting with UK and US development agencies to explore preventive healthcare
Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), recently chaired a high-level strategic meeting with officials from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO-UK) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The meeting focused on advancing the National Health Insurance Scheme's (NHIS) Annual Health Check programme, a key initiative within the Preventive and Promotive healthcare delivery service.
The collaborative discussions aimed to explore innovative strategies for strengthening preventive healthcare in Ghana, aligning with the NHIA’s goal to reduce preventable diseases and promote early detection across the country.
The Annual Health Check programme serves as an essential component of this approach, ensuring that NHIS subscribers have access to regular health screenings and preventive care.
Dr. Aboagye highlighted the importance of international partnerships in improving healthcare outcomes in Ghana, expressing optimism about the contributions of FCDO-UK and USAID to bolster the NHIS framework.
He emphasized that strategic cooperation with these global health partners would accelerate efforts to enhance healthcare access and promote sustainable health services across the nation.
Representatives from FCDO-UK and USAID reiterated their commitment to supporting Ghana’s preventive healthcare initiatives, recognizing the NHIS Annual Health Check programme as a valuable model that could drive health improvements not only within Ghana but across the region.
