The Senior Staff Association of the Volta River Authority (VRA) has called on the government to publicly announce the withdrawal of a proposed bill that seeks to merge the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Bui Power Authority, Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), and VRA into two separate entities.

This appeal comes after ongoing concerns raised by VRA’s Senior Staff regarding the potential negative impacts of the merger on both the authority and the nation.

The demand was voiced during a closed-door meeting with Herbert Krapah, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, where the leadership of the Senior Staff Association sought to address their worries.

Mr  Theophilus Tetteh Ahia, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, stressed the importance of a public statement confirming the withdrawal of the bill.

“The Minister assured us that the right decision would be made.

We expect him to issue a statement as soon as possible today so we can move forward, continue our work, and safeguard the VRA.

The VRA is a cornerstone of our economy and national security, and we cannot allow any attempts to dismantle it.

We, the staff of VRA, along with the people of this country, are ready to fight for its survival and to ensure the continued supply of reliable and affordable electricity,” Mr Ahia stated. Mr Ahia spoke in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
