The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has informed the Council of State that plans are in place to reconvene Parliament early November.

The decision follows a petition by the Majoriy caucus, urging an urgent return to address pressing national matters after a prolonged adjournment.

The indefinite suspension, which Speaker Bagbin imposed, stemmed from an intense disagreement over which party holds the majority following the Speaker’s recent decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

The move intensified the rivalry between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), leading both sides to press for clarity in order to ensure the proper functioning of the legislative body.

During a courtesy visit, Speaker Bagbin assured the Council of State that his office, alongside parliamentary leadership, was working diligently to “restore order and ensure a smooth legislative process.”

He stressed the urgency of reconvening, not only to resolve the ongoing dispute but also to attend to “pressing national issues and procedural reforms necessary to prevent similar conflicts in the future.”

Speaker Bagbin reaffirmed his commitment to neutrality, vowing to uphold Ghana’s democratic values as he navigates the tense political landscape.

“My role as Speaker is to maintain neutrality and safeguard Ghana’s democratic principles during these challenging times,” he stated.

The Council of State expressed its confidence in Bagbin’s leadership, commending his efforts to bring stability and acknowledging the vital importance of restoring Parliament’s full legislative capacity. “
