Ofankor project delays 'due to gods travelling' - Project manager

General News
Works ongoing on Ofankor -Nsawam road project

Senior Project Manager Ing Abdulai Mahama has shed light on reasons for the delay in completing the Ofankor-Nsawam road project in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions, which commenced in September 2022.

According to him, the road was initially scheduled for completion within 24 months but is currently around 60 percent finished.

Mr Mahama explained that several unforeseen challenges had contributed to the delay.

"One significant issue involved the demolition of a shrine located along the construction route," he said.

According to Mr Mahama, they were informed that the shrine's gods had travelled, which resulted in a three-and-a-half-month delay.

The team had to pay for two cattle and provide additional funds before they were permitted to resume work.

Other complications affecting the project included issues with settlers and landlords, the need to reposition high-tension wires from ECG and GRIDCO, and ongoing disputes related to the shrine.

Despite these setbacks, Mr Mahama reassured the road is designed with a 20-year lifespan, and all drainage systems are built to last 50 years, ensuring long-term durability and effectiveness.

He spoke in an interview on Accra-based Adom TV.
