New Force spokesperson deported

General News
Deported Shalimar Abuissi

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has deported Shalimar Abuissi, a spokesperson for the New Force, following the cancellation of her permit.

On Tuesday, 19 December 2023, a Kaneshie District Court cleared the Belgian national of charges related to obtaining a student permit under false pretences after state prosecutors decided to drop the case.

Ms Shalimar had initially claimed to be a student at the Ghana Christian University College in her immigration documents.

However, following intelligence investigations by the state, this assertion was found to be untrue.

The court proceedings took an unexpected turn when State Prosecutors announced the withdrawal of charges against Ms Shalimar, prompting a visible sense of relief for her.

Despite the momentary respite, Ms Shalimar's freedom was short-lived as she was promptly re-arrested.

In a brief 20-minute window, she experienced the contrasting realms of liberty and confinement.

Following the revocation of her permit, the state arranged for Ms Shalimar's repatriation, giving her a 24-hour ultimatum to leave the country.

At 10 PM on Tuesday, she departed on a Brussels-bound flight from the Kotoka International Airport.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the turn of events, Ms Shalimar's lawyer, Francis Xavier, argued that the state had violated her fundamental human rights.

He vowed to pursue justice and indicated his intention to continue legal proceedings initiated at the Human Rights Court.

The situation took a dramatic turn as Ms Shalimar Abuissi's lawyer clashed with immigration officers during her re-arrest.

The unfolding events underscored the complexities surrounding her case and the legal battles that may lie ahead.
