The Divisional Executives Council of the Public Services Workers Union(PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, representing the National Identification Authority (NIA) Division, has announced an industrial strike.

The strike begins today, Monday, 7 October 2024.

A notice issued by the workers on Sunday, 6 October, 2024 citeD the employer's failure to implement their newly approved Scheme of Service (SoS) as the primary reason for the strike.

The workers made it clear that they will not halt their industrial action until the agreed-upon scheme is fully operationalised.

“After exhaustive patience and repeated demands, we regret to inform you that your unacceptable failure to operationalise the newly approved Scheme of Service has compelled us to take this decisive action beginning Monday, October 7, 2024. By extension, all our members will not avail ourselves for work until the scheme of service is fully operationalised,” the notice stated.

The workers characterised the failure to implement the agreed scheme as a "blatant breach of trust" and a direct attack on their well-being.

They emphasised the importance of the SoS, which was approved by the Public Services Commission in record time earlier this year.

“The SoS, which was painstakingly approved by the PSC within two weeks in record history in March, remains a vital tool for our collective survival and progress. Management’s obstinate refusal to implement this critical document is a blatant betrayal of trust and a direct attack on our well-being,” they asserted.
