Kumasi Airport being upgraded to ‘proper international airport’ – Ashanti Reg. Minister

The Kumasi Airport is to be upgraded to international standard, Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah has announced.
According to him, the runway is being expanded by 200 metres more so as to make it an international airport.
The minister was speaking at the Nation Building Updates held in Accra on Tuesday, 10 November 2020.
“We are now building a proper international airport for which we are expanding the runway by another 200 metres. That is what we call an international airport”, Mr Osei-Mensah said.
He said what is being constructed is “a proper international airport not an airport by nomenclature”.
Phase 1 of the upgrade works was completed in 2014.
In 2016, former President John Mahama cut sod for the expansion works to begin.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, however, cut sod for the Phase 2 of the project to begin in 2018 and it is expected to be completed in 2021.
