KIA cocaine smuggling saga: Justice Kweku Annan accuses Transport Ministry of double standards

Justice Kweku Annan

Justice Kwaku Annan, the host of CTV’s Frontline current affairs programme on television in the Greater Accra Region, has criticized the Ministry of Transport for what he describes as double standards in handling the interdiction and subsequent reinstatement of Mr. Eric Nartey Yeboah, also known as "Chairman Dollar," following his alleged involvement in a cocaine smuggling case at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Speaking on his show, Mr. Annan accused the Transport Ministry, led by Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, of unprofessional conduct in managing the matter.

He noted that while the Ministry was swift in issuing a public statement announcing Mr. Nartey Yeboah’s interdiction, it has failed to follow up with a statement clarifying his reinstatement and exoneration.

“The Ministry felt it necessary to make a public declaration about its decision to interdict Mr. Nartey Yeboah, but it has been silent on the fact that he has now been exonerated and reinstated.

This shows a lack of professionalism and fairness in dealing with the issue,” Mr. Annan stated.

He called on the Ministry to demonstrate transparency and consistency by officially communicating its decision to reinstate Mr. Nartey Yeboah.

According to Mr. Annan, such actions would ensure fairness and restore public confidence in the Ministry's handling of sensitive matters.

The controversy surrounding Mr. Nartey Yeboah stems from allegations of his involvement in a cocaine smuggling incident at KIA adding that when the aircraft landed on the tarmac at Kotoka International Airport there was no information about the whereabouts of the aircraft.

He added that it took the likes of Mr Yeboah to prepare a situation report on the aircraft for National Security.

And for the Ministry to turn around to interdict the gentleman for being involved in the saga, he noted

Following investigations, he was reportedly cleared of any wrongdoing and reinstated to his position, though the Ministry has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter, he concluded.
