The judge presiding over Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson’s case has been named among the nominees for the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has formally requested President Akufo-Addo to nominate five distinguished judges to the Supreme Court, including Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botchwey, who is currently overseeing the high-profile Ato Forson trial.
The recommended judges, detailed in a letter dated May 30, 2024, are Justice Afia Asare Botwe, Justice Cyra Pamela Koranteng, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Justice Eric Kyei Baffuor, and Justice Angelina Mensah Homiah.
In her letter, Chief Justice Torkornoo highlighted Justice Asante’s extensive experience, noting: “Justice Asante's term of office at the ECOWAS court ended on July 31, 2022, and he was requested to remain at post on account of the withdrawal of Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso from the community.”
She further explained that “his current tenure is expected to end in 2026 or earlier when he is expected to return to Ghana's Judiciary.”
