Gov’t launches new policy to cleanse payroll of ghost names
Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced the introduction of a novel government policy designed to streamline the national payroll.
The initiative, revealed during the launch of the National Mechanised Payroll Database at the Controller and Accountant General's Department in Accra on Wednesday,10 January 2024, mandates all government workers to link their Ghana Card details to the payroll.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the government's commitment to purging the payroll of ghost names, a longstanding issue that has plagued the system.
The integration of the National Identification Authority (NIA) database with the government payroll is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving this objective.
"This linkage between the NIA database and the government payroll will significantly contribute to eliminating the incidence of ghost names on the government of Ghana’s mechanized payroll system, which has persisted for some time," stated Dr. Bawumia during the launch.
The National Mechanised Payroll Database is set to revolutionise the management of government finances, bringing about increased accuracy and accountability in personnel records.
