Fire devastates Ashaiman main market: 40 shops lost
A devastating fire ravaged the Ashaiman Main Market on Sunday, September 10, 2023, requiring the heroic efforts of firefighters from various stations to bring it under control.
Firefighters from the Motorway, Tema Metro, and Tema Industrial Area Fire Stations, as well as two water tankers from Tema RHQ and GHAPOHA Fire Department, battled the inferno for an arduous 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The fierce blaze engulfed approximately 40 shops and stalls, including metal containers used for the sale of herbal medicines, millet, maize, and various other merchandise. Despite the ferocity of the fire, the firefighters were able to save an undisclosed number of shops and goods after successfully confining, controlling, and extinguishing the flames.
No casualties were reported as a result of the fire.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, although authorities have already taken precautionary measures.
The Electricity Company of Ghana has disconnected the electrical service lines that were damaged during the incident to prevent any potential electrocution hazards to passersby.
