Dec polls: Protect journalists in the discharge of their duties – GJA President at AMC
Albert Dwumfuor President of the Ghana Journalists Association, has praised Ghana’s improvement on the World Press Freedom Index and said it is as a result of collaboration between the government and journalists.
He emphasised the need for continued protection of journalists, especially with the upcoming December elections.
“It’s part of the improvements made in our press freedom rankings. There are still some other critical challenges we need to deal with, especially as Ghanaians go to the polls in December. We pray that the entire nation will protect journalists in the discharge of their duties.
“We also pledge to protect the interest of the nation with credible election coverage,” Mr. Dwumfuor said at the ongoing Africa Media Convention in Accra on Thursday, 16 May 2023.
The AMC is an annual event supported by African media stakeholders, aimed at reflecting on the fundamental role of journalism on the continent, celebrating the principles of press freedom, and discussing measures to safeguard media freedoms, promote access to information, and ensure the safety and viability of journalists in AU Member States.
This year’s theme is, “Enhancing Freedom, Innovation, and Environmental Sustainability in a Dynamic Media Landscape.”
