Akufo-Addo grants presidential charter to Entrance University of Health Sciences, 13 others for full university status
Entrance University of Health Sciences has achieved a significant milestone by securing a presidential charter, officially elevating its status to a fully recognised and autonomous university.
The institution, which is a subsidiary of the Tobinco Group, received this prestigious recognition as part of its efforts to strengthen its position in higher education.
The presidential charter, granted after a rigorous evaluation, highlights Entrance University's dedication to excellence in education, research, and community service.
This achievement places the university among the top institutions in the country, enabling it to award degrees independently and develop academic programs without external oversight.
The official charter-granting ceremony took place on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Jubilee House, where Entrance University of Health Sciences was one of 14 private institutions honoured.
The university's leadership expressed sincere gratitude to its faculty, staff, and students, whose combined efforts made this historic accomplishment possible. They also announced plans to introduce medical and dentistry programmes to their range of courses for students in the coming year.
In a Facebook post, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasised the significance of the charter, stating it represented the highest recognition a tertiary institution in Ghana could achieve, earned only after meeting the strict criteria set by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
These criteria include excellence in governance, quality assurance, academic delivery, research, and community engagement.
“This milestone is a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and nation-building,” the president remarked.
The institutions granted the presidential charter included: Entrance University of Health Sciences, the National Defence College, KAAF University College, Heritage Christian University College, Ensign Global College, the University College of Gold Coast, Knutsford University College, Thrivus Institute for Biomedical Sciences and Technology, and Nobel International Business School.
Also receiving charters were Accra Metropolitan University College, African University College of Communications, Garden City University College, Family Health University College, and Academic City University College.
