President John Dramani Mahama has urged members of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to take a more active role in scrutinising government policies.

He emphasised accountability was the backbone of national development, encouraging civil society organisations (CSOs), including the GBA, to voice their concerns whenever governance took a wrong turn.

His remarks came during a courtesy visit by the GBA, led by its President Efua Ghartey.

President Mahama stressed the importance of constructive criticism in shaping a more transparent and responsible government.

President Mahama also called for the establishment of specialised fast-track courts to handle cases of public fund misappropriation.

He expressed deep concern over the billions of cedis lost due to financial mismanagement, stressing delays in the justice system weakened deterrence, allowing corruption to thrive.

The president expressed belief that swift prosecution would not only recover lost funds but also serve as a strong warning against financial misconduct.
