Harmattan: NGO raises awareness on fire outbreaks

The Universal Rehabilitation Centre, an NGO, has warned Ghanaians against burning rubbish indiscriminately during the harmattan season.
The Coordinator of the Centre, Florence Asare, said activities such as the misuse of electricity, electrical gadgets, illegal electrical connections, indiscriminate burning of rubbish or waste materials must be stopped during the harmattan.
She gave the caution at a sensitisation programme organised at Ahafo Kenyase No1 in the Ahafo Region.
She further mentioned human activities such as improper disposal of smouldering materials like cigarette butts, lit mosquito coils, faggots, unattended cooking, poor handling and misuse of naked lights such as candles, lit matches, and lighters; poor storage and handling of flammable and combustible materials, as some of the things that could lead to fire outbreaks.
