The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has assured the public no shooting has taken place at the Kumasi Electoral Commission (EC) office as reported by the media.

It said, also, no one has been injured by the police.

However, according to the police, some Enough Is Enough demonstrators who flouted "agreed arrangement" and forced their way into the EC compound "were restrained" by them.

The GPS said this on social media, Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

"The Ghana Police Service wishes to state that there has been no shooting incident at the Kumasi office of the Electoral Commission and no demonstrator has been injured by the Police.

"However, some demonstrators who went against the agreed arrangement by forcing their way into the compound of the EC office were restrained.

"We would like to take this opportunity to urge the media to be circumspect in their reportage," the Ghana Police Service wrote.

Thousands of supporters of the main opposiiton National Democratic Congress (NDC), from all 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region, gathered at the party’s regional office for a massive Enough is Enough demonstration, today.

The protest is part of the John Mahama-led NDC's demand for a forensic audit of the 2024 voters’ register.

The large turnout underscored the party’s serious concerns over alleged discrepancies in the provisional voters’ register, which they argue could undermine the credibility of the upcoming December 7 elections.

NDC leaders have accused the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC) of inflating the electoral roll to favour the Mahamudu Bawumia-led governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
