A retired Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Bright Oduro has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to refer the allegations contained in the 37-page report by the former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) to the investigative agencies for some finality on the matter.

He was of the view that the best way to have the issue settled is to refer it to the investigative bodies in the country.

According to him, the responsibility will then lie on the police CID or the National Bureau of Investigations (NIB) to dissect the allegations and come out with all the needed evidence.

He said it is out of place for the complainant in a case to be asked to add evidence to his or her case.

He added that the CID can deduce evidence from the allegations raised in the report by the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations.

Mr Bright Oduro indicated that the allegations contained in the report can be investigated by the police CID.

The former CID boss made this call while reacting to the statement from the Jubilee House that Prof Frimpong Boateng’s report was laced with hearsay and lacked evidence.

He spoke on the Citizen Show hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday 25 2023.

He said the former Minister is no mean person, hence, the allegations contained in his report that some government appointees are neck-deep in illegal mining (galamsey) activities must be investigated.
