Agric Min announces climate-aware 40th National Farmers’ Day on Nov 8

The Dr Bryan Acheampong-led Food & Agriculture Ministry has announced the 2024 National Farmers’ Day, and revealed its date and theme.

This was contained in a Wednesday, October 23, 2024, statement from the ministry’s public relations unit.

In view of the December 7, 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, the annual ceremony focused on the celebration of farmers will take place on Friday, November 8.

Climate consciousness

Taking place “in the Greater Accra Region,” the statement revealed the 40th National Farmers’ Day will be themed ‘Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security’ to highlight “Ghana's commitment to adopting agricultural practices that effectively address the challenges posed by climate change”.

“As part or the lead-up to this landmark celebration, Ghana will host a 5-day National Agricultural Fair, Agrifest Ghana 2024, from 4th to 8th November 2024,” the statement indicated.

“This event will showcase Ghana's rich agricultural heritage and serve as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and innovation, bringing together farmers and stakeholders from across the country,” it explained.

“Given the urgency of addressing climate change, the focus on building climate-resilient agriculture is crucial for ensuring food security and sustainability in Ghana,” the statement stressed.

“The National Farmers’ Day celebration will serve as a vital platform for promoting dialogue and innovation, encouraging farmers and stakeholders to adapt to environmental changes and adopt best practices in agriculture.”

Awards night

The statement said: “The National Farmers Day celebration will culminate in the National Awards Night Ceremony on 8th November, where H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, will honour outstanding farmers in 163 award categories. These prestigious awards include the Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer, among others, recognizing the invaluable contributions of farmers to the nation's agricultural sector.”
