UndaBeat: Ghanaian star music producer dead
Music producer UndaBeat, born Eric Nkrumah, has died.
In his active years, UndaBeat produced music for stars like Yaa Pono, Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, and Shatta Wale.
He originally worked for Mankessim-based Ebibifo Records. In 2013, he joined Tema-based Screech Studio. UndaBeat later joined the Yaa Pono-founded Uptown Energy music company, where he and Pono cut hits like Bokor or Bibi Nti.
“Why, Unda?” Yaa Pono mourned on social media, when he learned of the news. “You mess[ed] up my whole mood this morning, bro.”
The rap star prayed, also: “Rest in peace, my brother.”
In 2019, UndaBeat was nominated for a Ghana Music Awards (GMA) Instrumentalist of the Year award. Two years after, ‘Sobolo’ which he produced for Ghanaian international star Stonebwoy was named the 3Music Awards 2021 Highlife Song of the Year.
The news of the music producer’s death became public on Thursday, September 27, 2024, sadly, three days after his birthday.
UndaBeat’s family has not announced his passing, nor is the cause of his death immediately known.
