Mahama promises TV channel dedicated to making creative arts players money
Mr John Dramani Mahama has revealed should he return to office as president of Ghana, his government will "acquire a special [TV] channel for the creative arts".
"On the digital terrestrial television [DDT], we will acquire a special channel for the creative arts," he said, explaining: "It will be an events channel."
Events on the TV channel will be monetised to the benefit of creators, also, Mr Mahama said and explained how.
"And you can display all your works there. If you have a big show like Stonebwoy is performing or Amandzeba is performing, or somebody is performing and you have a big show, or many of you are performing on a big show, we will have a technology to make that show payable. So even though it will be on the DTT, you would have to pay with the electronic and then you will be given a code to watch,” the former president said.
Mr Mahama is seeking reelection as president come December 7, 2024, during the general elections in Ghana.
Speaking at AH Hotel, East Legon, Accra, June 7, during a policy dialogue with creative arts stakeholders, he observed the creative arts industry was a fertile ground which could answer the unemployment and economic issues in the country.
“The creative arts is a very important industry and has the potential to create millions of jobs. All our young people who are sitting at home, many of them are talented but there are no opportunities for them to show their talents. So if we are able to put the creative industry on a sound footing, it will create opportunities for many of our young people," John Mahama said.
